I brought my vehicle to my mechanic because I was having the code of P0302. He replaced the spark plugs (6), ignition coil #2, cleaned the injectors and did compression test. But the code is still there. It shows on the scanner that the code is generic and permanent. What must be the problem? Prior to this, I also had P0441 but this code does not show on the scanner anymore. Does this P0441 triggers also the misfire or code P0302? Thanks and hoping for your most appreciated reply.

Hi,

Did he replace the spark plug in cylinder 2? A P0302 indicates a cylinder misfire. It has nothing to do with cylinder 6. If the spark plug wasn't replaced, that is where I would start. In all honesty, they all should be replaced. The manufacturer recommends 100,000 miles for the plugs.

The P0441 deals with the evaporative emissions system. I don't see how it could single out on cylinder.

Again, I have no idea why the cylinder 6 spark plug was replaced and cylinder 2 wasn't. That makes no sense to me based on the code.

If you look at the pics below, they are specific to removal and replacement of the spark plugs for your vehicle. The last picture shows cylinder locations. I highlighted cylinder 2. It is one of the easiest to get to. Remove the spark plug and replace it with a new one. If the coil was bad, the plug may be bad.

The original equipment spark plug is a champion part number RER8ZWYCB4. It is an iridium spark plug so expect to pay between 8 and 10 dollars for one.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

What I mean is all 6 spark plugs were replaced so with the #2 ignition coil. The acceleration is okay but the RPM is a little high. Before at 60 kph, the RPM was at 1,000 to 1,200. Now it’s 1,400 to 1,600. The RPM is still normal when the engine gets warm. But at start up, it goes all the way to 1,700 and it takes a while before the RPM goes down which it is not before the code P0302 was scanned. The check engine light is off but the code is still there and it shows “permanent”. Thanks a lot for your reply and hope to hear from you again.

I just scanned my vehicle again just a few minutes ago and it’s shows a pending code of P0302. Since the code is still there, I now have a weird feeling that the spark plugs and ignition coil #2 was not replaced. Maybe I am wrong but I have to go to another mechanic and see for myself if those parts were really replaced. From there I will have a good information regarding the real condition of my vehicle. Thank you once again and I really appreciate your response regarding my questions.

Hi,

First, you are very welcome. I just hope I'm able to help.

If you are able to get a pic of the number 2 coil pack, I may be able to tell if it's new. Also, if you remove the spark plug, we should be able to tell if they were replaced.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
