Hello,

I am writing for any advice. In April of 08 I had my oil changed at Walmart. I took it in to the local dealership 2 days ago to have oil changed again. It had been 7000 miles, oil light came on, I called and got in the next day. Mechanics say cap was off radiator and less than 1/2 qt. Of oil. Engine will have to be replaced and not covered under warranty because it wasn't changed at 3000 miles.

Questions: Does oil have to be changed at 3000 miles? I thought new engines you could go 7000 miles?

Question: Is it possible that Walmart did not change oil since they left can off radiator and it was so low?

Question: Can a car burn that much oil? (Almost all) in 7000 miles?

Question: PLEASE HELP! I don't have 3000 dollars to get a new engine on a car 2 years old! PLEASE HELP ME!

With all appreciation,

Toni

Toni:
Is the van still running? If you drove it in, was there engine noise prior to them getting it? Also, you are correct about the oil changes. If you look in your owner's manual, I believe it will say 7500 miles for changes under good conditions, but you still need to make sure the oil is full. Next thing, if you used 5 quarts of oil in 7000 miles, you may have the arguement that the car was using oil excessively. I believe Chrysler says a quart in 1500 miles can be considered normal, but yours went faster than that.

Toni, let me know what you think or if you have any questions. I will be glad to help you. My sister's name is Toni and now I feel obligated LOL.

Every Chrysler dealer I have ever worked for does not require oil changes at 3000 miles for warranty. Do you have factory warranty or after market service contract?
If factory warranty. Call Chrysler get number for hot line from any Chrysler dealership.
