what are some reasons why the belt would slip off in the rain while driving?

On the underside of the vehicle (passanger side) there is a plastic shield that is there to prevent water from getting on to the belt. Many times they break, come off, or holes are worn into them allowing water to hit the belt, slip and come off. Check that and let me know what you find.
