EVERY TIME I AM DRIVING AND I TURN MY A/C ON, THE ENGINE WILL TOTALLY STOP AND LOCK UP AND I HAVE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. I TURN THE A/C OFF AND LET IT COOL DOWN. WAIT MAYBE FIVE MINUTES AND THE VAN WILL START UP AND RUN FINE AS LONG AS I DON'T USE THE A/C

Hi DIANE J PIERCE. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like the compressor is locked up and needs to be replaced. Unplug the two-wire connector to the compressor clutch to prevent it from engaging. You won't get cold air, but the engine will no longer stall when you turn the AC on.
