I hit 3 potholes last night and now my steer is at 6 o'clock when driving straight ahead. Any bumps to the right rear passenger side are followed by big thuds and some clanking noises. Is this really serious or do I just need a new shock perhaps

This is a potentially very serious problem since it changed your steering wheel and have it looked at immediately.
Steering and brakes are the two biggest safety threats that a vehicle encounters when damage occurs. I have thought many times which one I would rather lose doing 60 on a highway. I would rather chose where to crash it and have some control of my fate. So, to me anyway, I would rather loose my brakes.
If your driving others, you may choose to have it towed to a shop. Ok.
