I recently bought this car and it was running fine. The fuel guage did'nt work. I was going to test to see if it was the gauge or the sending unit. I unplugged the fuel pump connector on top of the pump and checked with a test light. I had no power at the connector. After I plugged the connector back in the vehicle would not start. I checked the fused and all are good. I'm lost. Is there some sort of reset or procedure to make the system operate? Did I mess up when I unplugged the fuel pump?

The pump should run for only one to two seconds when you turn the ignition switch to "Run". It will not run again until the engine computer sees engine rotation, (cranking or running). If you don't hear the pump run, double-check the electrical connector.

As for the dead fuel gauge, suspect the sending unit. Remove the pump assembly, carefully bend the plastic finger holding the float arm on, and slide the arm off. Bend the two metal fingers near the pivot out a little so they make better contact with the sensor element. Snap the arm back on and reinstall the assembly into the tank.

Thank you for answering my question. The information will be helpful. Now the car will not start at times and the wipers will only work with washer. I suspect the body control module is failing but I'm not sure. Again, thank you for answering my question.
