1990 Chrysler New Yorker V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 78.000 miles

My speedometer works fine but the mileage indacator does not, I have just bought this car awhile back and had alot of brake repairs and sheet metal replacement on front end where eldery gentleman hit a dumpster, thought had foot on brake had it on gas, just a front fender and hood and grill. From the looks of it this is a electracal output sensor not a cable, Could part of it be bad and not the other part? Not a real dummy here on cars, Have built and still race a NHRA Super Comp Dragster plus build transmissons to help with racing exspences, Retired after 35 years as night supertendent at a papermill and seen lots of breakdowns that seem unrelated.
thanks
Bob

Need to know if it is a dgital or analog dash. Either way if the speedo works but the odo has an issue it is most likely the cluster, repair depends on digital or analog

It is a analog dash. And the mileage is the only thing not working, The dash assb has a good ground and all gauges and the speedometer reads right according to buddy running along side my car with his car they both read the same just that my does not regster milage.
Thanks

Most likely needs a new speedo head. The odo is gear driven off the speedo

Your saying the "head", Do you mean the gear driven unit that plugs into the tranny or the cluster? This one is elect driven not cable.
Thanks

There should be an electric motor on the back of the instrument cluster that runs the speedo off a signal rather than a cable. If removed (instrument cluster) you will see how the odo is gear driven off the speedo, regardless of how the signal gets to the speedo.
