can i remove and install the fuel pump through the opening in the trunk? what might be an easier fix than replacing the fuel pump?

i'm guessing it's the fuel pump. not getting the typical whirring noise at start up. engine turns over but does not start. tapped on the tank once and it started; drove about 130 miles, started fine quite a few times. died on me and wouldn't start again.

can i remove and install the fuel pump through the opening in the trunk-that's the idea so you won't have to drop the tank. Check the wiring to the pump-if okay replace the pump
