1997 Chrysler LHS check engine light stays on

engine runs sluggish when i give it fuel. engine starts to hesistate,sounds like its missing. I REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND AIR FILTER and it seemed to make it worse. The engine check light didnt come on until after i changed those componets. it seemed to make the car run worse!!!! help me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recheck the work again
check for disconnected wires and or a vacuum line
cycle key on off on off on check for codes
codes will pin point what is going on and place to start
