My van was making a grinding/squealing noise in the front passager side near the radiator. It disappeared, then today I was driving, the steering locked up, the battery symbol came on and also the hot engine. I promptly stopped and got it towed. We replaced the battery about a month ago. What could be wrong with it? Please help.

One of your pulleys has seized and possibly caused the serpentine belt to break. Remove the serpentine belt, and spin each pulley individually. Replace the pulley that doesn't spin freely. Obviously you can spin the crank pulley. Replace the belt and you should be good.
