My Car keeps over heating and my air doesnt blow heat at first we thought it was the water pump. when he went to change the water pump there was ice in the block. we changed out the the thermostat and then tested the heater core for blockage and it was fine. the car started to blow out hot air for 20 min and then stoped and the air started to smell lik antifreze. we still dont know why it wont blow out heat it stoped over heating. they seem 2 think it the head gaskets but its not knocking.

Hi:
First, ice in the block isn't something you want to find. If you were getting heat and now you smell coolant, you need to locate the leak. Also, make sure you use the proper type of coolant and follow the manufacturer's directions to get the lowest freezing point.

If the ice you saw in the block wasn't solid, the engine should be ok. But don't forget, ice can crack the engine block. Check for leaks at the heater core, freeze plugs on the engine, radiator... Let me know what you find.
