2000 Chrysler Cirrus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 60k miles

My car was stolen and ignition switch pulled out. When I got it back I could start it with a screwdriver without the ignition switch but no matter how careful I was to get the switch in the totally off position the battery would not stay charged and the car would not start the next time without getting a jump or charging for 10 minutes. I would like to get fixed if it is only a matter of replacing the ignition switch but I've been told that sometimes the steering column is involved which could be more expensive. I'm assuming the battery is ok since the car starts with a charger hooked up but now that I think about it maybe it's starting just off the charger. Help needed - thanks

Without seeing it, I can't tell you if the steering column was damaged. AS far as the tumbler / switch, the steering wheel needs removed, which involves an airbag, and the top of the steering column. However, if it is just the switch, it shouldn't be too much to fix.

Can you take a picture of it and upload it for me to see the damage?

I just canceled my cell phone so I can't send a picture right now. There is no external damage to the steering column. They just dented the ignition switch opening a little. If the switch will slide in that will be fine. I am just wondering why the battery keeps getting drained and if the new ignition switch will stop it?
