I was doing 40 on the highway and the engine reved up (like i floored it) then went back to driving regular. It then did it again, and we pulled over. The car was smoking. We turned the car off and let it sit for a bit and when we started it up again, with the hood open, we heard a slight spraying noise and a reddish brown fluid was coming out rapidly behind the passenger side headlight leaking on to the ground. The transmission to this car was re-built less than 6 months ago. What could be wrong with the car.

Judging on the fluid leak, I would think that the transmission coolant line leaked, and thats what was spraying out on the ground. when the transmisision fluid gets too low, the car won't move, it will just rev up. Check the transmission fluid and trace the leak.

Looking under the hood, locate your radiator. On the passenger side of the radiator you will see two 5/16" transmission rubber hoses attached to the radiator. One of the hoses is either leaking or had come off of the radiator. Repair the leak or re-install the hose, add ATF+4 fluid into your transmission to level, and you should be good to go.
