I have a 1996 Chrysler Cirrus which cuts out while driving or also while idling. Does it every couple of days. Most times it will restart but other times it must sit for a couple of hours before it will restart (only when I don't have any tools) . Has spark, good fuel pressure when running, and no engine codes. The engine runs fine, good power and smooth idle. Has had spark when it wouldn't start. It can idle for 15 minutes and then just shuts off like you turned off the key. Same way when you are driving it. Sometimes it will it will idle for an hour fine and not cut out. Everytime it has stopped and I put a fuel pressure gage on it it starts. Any ideas. What commonly fails.

You sound like you have the same luck as I do. When the engine won't start, you say you have spark. However, when you put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail, it starts. What I need you to try is this. WHen it doesn't start, try starting fluid to see if that will make it decide to run. LEt me know what happens.

Something tells me you have a plugged fuel filter and the quick pressure release from the gauge allows fuel to flow again.

Let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I pretty sure it is not a fuel problem and I have been barking up the wrong tree. I hooked fuel pressure guage and let the engine run until it cutout (~20 moinutes) I had pressure but no spark. I tried several times to restart it but it would not start. I waited about 15 minutes had it started instantly with a good spark. So now I'm trying to to see if the ignition module has power to it when the engine cuts out. The cutout is more frequent now so maybe I'll find it. Any idea what the common intermitant ignition failures are for the engine? Thanks again for your reply.
