I was on my way home doing about 70mph on the freeway when my car just died. The accelerator dropped to the floor and the engine cut off and the thermostat went all the way up. I pulled off and popped the hood. there was no smoke or steam. The belts were intact. I looked undeneath and there was nothing dripping. I checked all my fluids and all were topped off. I recently had the oil changed and a rebuilt transmission installed. I have no clue what happened. Can you give me an idea to start repairs?

Hi:
Have you checked for spark and fuel to the engine?

no I have not. I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. First thing i will do is check the fuel pump, then the fuel lines. Next is the spark plugs and alternator. Should I check something else?

The easiest thing to check is for spark. I would start there and move to the fuel pressure.

Let me know what you find. Also, I reread your post. What do you mean the accelerator fell to the floor?
