1997 Chevy Venture Oil pump

1997 Chevy Venture 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

The lifters tick and there is a knocking. The oil level is ok on the dip stick. I can see the lifters through the oil fill hole and there is no oil splashing. Can the oil pump be removed with the engine in place?

REMOVAL


Remove the oil pan.
Remove the bolt attaching the oil pump to the rear crankshaft bearing cap.
Remove the oil pump and driveshaft.
Inspect the driveshaft at both ends for rounding of the corners.
