We have a 1979 3/4 ton van, mileage is around 15k on the new engine/motor. I believe it is a v-8 305 engine style. I replaced the starter in it as it was not turning over. What actually was happening is the car was not initially turning over. The idiot lights and radio wouldn't even come on when we turned the ignition. We replaced the starter, the battery is completely ok - then we tried and nothing. Not even the click sound. I checked the ignition switch and all the fuses and they are all good. I checked the voltage/etc and the alternator and starter are not getting any juice from the battery. I checked the wiring and unknown from there. I don't know what it could be-----help!

Just a guess here...as i have never owned a 79.

But your symptoms are exactly like an accesory wire being disconnected.

The accesory wire (if your model has one)comes off of the positive terminal of the battery. It is the smaller diameter wire there. If not connected you will have no lights, radio, solenoid or starter engagement when you turn the key, even if your battery is fully charged.
