1997 Chevy 1500 Silverado 105,000. I swerved to miss a deer in the road. I wound up in the ditch and bent the front bumper. After that the alternator quit charging. It was working fine until it went into the ditch. Except for the bumper and the grill and a small crease in the hood there was not damage anywhere the alternator. I believe that there might have been a wire pinched when the bumper was bent. When I removed the bumper one harness had in fact been pinched. How do I test to see if the alternator is bad? It is not damaged to the point where it cannot be driven. If I can diagnose the alternator problem I will be able to drive it.

if you can make it to an auto parts store (advance, napa, VIP)they have a load tester that they can do right in the parking lot for free to test both your battery and your alternator... good luck :)
