I have a 94 chevy s 10, 2wd with an automatic transmision. It has 101,000 well maintained miles.

my problem is that sometimes when I am driving and the transmission is still cold it will just go out of gear and act like I am in neutral. If I then shift it into low 1, it will go right back into gear and work fine.

i checked the fluid and it was fine. I then went and had the transmission fulid and filter changed and they looked at the transmission and said it looked fine.

whats even more starnge is that it shifts perfectly and has no problems at all, untill out of no where it does this, which also isnt at every cold start, just now and then.

a couple weeks ago I had to have the rear axl changed because the piece that holds the wheel studs was stripped out. I didnt think this would have any effect on my problem, and the garage that did the work said that it wouldnt be anything to do with the rear end work that was done

i have taken very good care of this transmission since it had 20000 miles on it so I dont think it should be going bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

Check linkage adjustment, and mount bolts on transmission, if missing can cause movement when engaged.
