71 C10 generaor light on

My generator light came on in the truck. I replaced the alternator and the belt but light remains on.When I idle up the engine,the light goes dimmer and has gone off but then back to on when idled back down.

Double check battery connections. Get a voltmeter read the open battery voltage should read 12.4 or better-record it now fire it up meter should read between 13.5 to 15.5 volts not in this range check brown wire back to gauge/ignition switch.

Also check gauge fuse 20 amp at left side of dash. Does it have an external regulator?
