2000 Chevy Truck Brake Switch

I cant get my brake lights to work. I have running lights turn lights and hazard lights. But when I hit my brake light I dont have any. I have check all the fuses they are all good. I have also checked the bulbs they are good, for some reason just not getting my brake light s on. The truck is a diesel

Yes there was a green wire hanging out of it. Even when I put it back in they still wouldnt come on. It would make a clicking noise when I put the wire in and when I took the wire out. I asume that was the relay.

Is the switch new? If there was a wire out then someone may have tampered with it once before and messed up the circuitry to the brake lights.

Do I need to put a new brake light switch in it with that wire being out of the other one thats in the truck?

I'm assuming that wire was disconnected because the switch was faulty and whoever did it just couldn't afford or didn't have time to replace the switch itself
