I have a 1998 chevy diesel pick up. The starter is 2 yrs. old. the allernator checks out good as do both batteries. When I try to start the truck the only thing that happens is the horn honks. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are the battery cables/wires all clean and tight on both ends?

You can do some testing at the starter relay in the power distribution center under the hood. Unplug the relay, use a testlite, have a helper turn the key to crank, two of those terminals should be hot. Testing at the relay should be easy, even if it leads elsewhere.

Just a thought, if this is an automatic, did you try cranking in neutral?
