1997 Chevy Truck shifts hard or not at all

Transmission problem
1997 Chevy Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

shifts hard to 2nd gear and doesnot shift to third, then the dash went out all lights came on (eng. Brake, anti lock) but tach and speedometer were out for a few miles and eng. Brake and antilock went off and tach came back on except speedometer which is still out, there are NO codes stored according to a code reader and antilock goes off and on. HELP!

Hi Does your scanner have ability to read inputs? If yes check Vehicle Speed Sensor see if it sending MPH to VCM. VSS located on trans. Check engine never came on? Are you getting a NO COMM on reader?

The reader shows no codes stored, the check eng. Light came on, I believe because the dash some how lost power, the whole dash went off and seemed to be in the key on mode, we ordered a new vss they don't have one here on island.

Did dash come back on?Any other electrical problems?Can you manualy shift trans?
