Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

The oil pump went out on old engine. Engine bearings locked up. We swapped out the old engine for a short block replacement. Upon attempting to start, fire was received to number one cylinder on compression stroke. Fuel is available to the cylinder, but no response. Could this be a distributor module?

If you got fire the first time an dyou thought it was on compression stoke then it shold fire repeatedly. My GUESS is that you don't have the distributor timed properly and it won't start. to do this on a chevy V-8, bring the #1 cylinder up to TDC- drivers side front cylinder. Timing mark on balancer at or near 0. remove the distributor cap and the rotor metal part should be pointing at 11:30-12:00. If it is not in that position then the timing has been set incorrectly. Place everything in the correct positions and it should start.
