I just bought a 92 chevy lumina and it passed emissions with no problem, but it runs very rough. It idles high at times when I try to stop and it acts like it doesn't want to stop and when I do stop it idles very low and almost cuts off. Now when I put it in D or R it does cut off and won't go. It starts ok in P and N, the person I bought it from said it had been sitting for about 8 months. No check ingine light on or anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Your high idle is caused by old cracked or missing vacuum lines in the engine compartment. Inspect all lines closely, a pinhole will even give you these symptoms. Check underneath the manifold and inspect the entire PCV valve hose as they tend to get rock hard and brittle. Your car idling low at a stop and wanting to die is caused by the TCC solenoid not disengaging, it's lugging your engine in a high gear at low cruising speed. You can have it serviced at a transmission shop or just unplug it yourself.
