Engine Mechanical problem
1987 Chevy Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I just got a 87 chevy truck with the 350 v8 TBI fuel system. The LH gas tank fuel pump is shot but the RH works. When i turn the key to start it will not start unless i go and pour a little gas down the barrel then it will fire and run fine. I have to do this every time I turn off the key. What would be causing this?

First check fuel pressure at throttle body then see if noid light blinks when starting.
maybe rust in the distribitor canceling out the hall effect.
check with good known distribitor , just plug in under the hood and turn key on and spin by hand (watch out for high voltages at the coil) it will be popping, the injectors will also be pulsating if they and the computer are good.
