I have a 1986 Honey RV 24 foot which is a chevy make. Over time starting has been an issue. It would start hard (sounding like a low battery) but I have replaced with a brand new battery. Same situation with a new one but would start. After running for a period of time and then shutting down, it would not restart until what appeared to me to be a cooling down period.

Just used it and while driving it backfired and then the engine, lights ect shut down but then fired back up.

After sitting overnight, it would not start/spark at all. The battery is good and when we tried to jump start it. The jumper cables on both end got very hot (even a small flame appeared). Not power or spark for engine at all. Again, the battery is new and good, after being tested.

Sounds like a bad resistor I can't look this vehicle up, so Call a Honey dealer and ask if it has a resistor in the ignition cucuit, also DO NOT crank any engine for more than 10 secs! Fire can and usually will occur! After 10 secs of cranking, allow a 2 min period of cooling off! Also check the Ground cable from battery to engine block, use a jumper cable to temporarily attach neg to engine and try to start!
