1984 Chevy Truck snap ring

How do you get the snap ring out on the front wheel drive I cant seem to find the end to lift it out it is in behind the gear on the shaft I need to replace the ujoint it has a manual lock out hub I took the lock out hub off and spring and another part out there is a small gear and I can see a ring back behind the teeth but but trying to get the ring to split some place is eluiding me. Never mind I found out what I needed to know, there is a snap rinr on the out side up inside the hub when I took that out the rest slid out . Thank you

there are two types of wheel locks automatic and manual, next time put what you have. I will include pic so of both, but I thin you are talking about automatic style. the snap rind either will take a special pair of snap ring pliers or a needle poing thing like a screwdriver tip and slid under the snap ring and taken off that way.you'll find the end when youpry up the ring but be careful to not move it to far until you find the ends.... if it's the manual, you'll need to push the gear in to release the snap ring.
