I just replaced my engine. I had an automatic choke but now have a manual choke first problem is that its so darn touchy one little movement to close or open it manually causes it to die. My second problem is with my automatic transmission. When the truck does decide to run it won't upshift out of first no matter how much gas you give it. i replaced the modulator but that did nothing.

about the only thing you can do with the choke is to keep adjusting it until you find the right position for it. The trasmission can be the the vacuum hose is disconnected to the modulater, the govenor teeth are stripped, or the govenor itself is not good. Also you should have the kickdown linkage connected and adjusted correctly. it should go to full throttle when the gas pedal is fully depressed.
