Electrical problem
1973 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual

When the battery is connected I have a dim glow on all the lights. When I turn the headlights on, all the front lights work properly but the rear lights turn off completely.

welcome to the forum, the brown wire from the headlite switch is voltage for the tail lites. My wiring info for your model year is limited. Voltage to the headlite switch, just says hot all the time, no wiring color, no circuit. Do you have a park or tail lamp fuse in the fuse box? You could use a jumper wire off battery voltage, use inline fuse, to brown wire at headlamp switch connector, if the tail lites work ok, you know that part of circuit is ok. I don't have wiring info to the switch.
