Well here are the symptoms. This is on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe. When turning to the right only the steering wheel feels like it looses power steering it seems to release and the wheel moves to the right real easy. It is kind of scarry when it does this. It only does it on right hand bends right in the middle of a turn the wheel will release and recatch but for a split second the wheel feels free of its power steering. I really need to fix this it is my wifes car and she hates to drive it because it does this all the time.

You may have a problem with your Steering Wheel Speed Sensor. However this sounds more serious than a variation in effort to turn the wheel.
I would attempt to drive this vehicle carefully to a dealer and have them repair the steering. The life of you family is too important to allow this to continue. This is why we have emergency credit cards.
Brakes and Steering can be the most dangerous problems to have on a vehicle.
Good luck, and please post what fixed the problem.
