Engine Performance problem
2001 Chevy Tahoe V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 165k miles

My tahoe starts fine, but idles too slowly and dies. I can use gas pedal to keep rpms up for a while and it eventually finds an rpm that allows it to idle high enough to remain running, but that is only about 500. I've been told to clean the throttle body and the boot. Where can I find a picture of it as I'm not sure I can identify it without some help.

Cleaning the throttle plate, located in the center of intake manifold, is always a good idea but your symptoms indicates the IAC (Idle air control) Valve might be at fault. Fuel injected engines should "flare" when started. This term means, when starting, with no pressure on the accelerator, the engines rpms should climb to approximately 1100 and come back to its normal idle. This "flare" is the computer (ECM) extending the plunger inside the IAC Valve. If this flare is not happening, the valve is most likely gummed up or not functioning properly. It is located on the throttle housing and cleaning the valve usually does not work.
