Very common problem. The level rheostat inside of the gas tank has a loose connecting level float contact. If the actual gas tank level reading is accurate and you can stand a little shakeyness with the fuel gauge - then this is not a problem. Fixing this means - dropping the gas tank - removing the fuel pump assembly - and replacing either the level unit or the entire assembly. Did you ever change the fuel pump on this Tahoe?
