1994 Chevy Suburban will not start

my truck will t/o but will not fire. i sprayed some ether in carb and it tried to fire but died and there seemed to be a knocking noise on the left side f engine.also when it is running it jerks really hard out of 1st gear but goes through the rest of gears fine and service engine light stays o through this process. please help me or point me on some ways to go .i have within the past month replaced spark plugs, distributor,rotr,plug wires and battery

if your servic engine light is on you need to see what is causing it to do that. That ma be why it's not starting then see if yoiu are getting good spark through the oil and if it is then the dist cap. Ether is the worst thing you can use to start an engine, it dry s the cyl walls right out and hard telling what the knocking noise is. The service engine light may be the cause of moving poorly in 1st gear. If you are gettig good spark, thencheck your compression. And also check your fuel pressure you may not have enough.
