I have a 93 chevy surburban v8. It suddenly died and was desiling. I changed the fuel filter, sprayed a couple short blasts with starting fluid, it started right up. It idled for about 5 minutes and died. I had to charge the battery over night. Put the battery in a couple shots of starting fluid and it started right up. Idled for about 10 minutes. I got about 500 feet away from it died again wiht the same desiling noise.

I'd use a gage and check fuel pressure. Some of the national brand auto stores used to loan out fuel a pressure gage, if you don't have one. With TBI around 10 psi. Also, check for any applicable mil codes.
