I am changing the fuel pump on my 86 chevy suburban and when I look into where the fuel pump goes on the side of the block, it looks like there is a rod in the way of the pump going in. Do I need to try and get this rod pushed back up? and if so, how would I go about doing this?

On V8 engines remove the upper bolt from the right front engine mounting boss and insert a long bolt 3/8-16X2in to hold the fuel pump pushrod.

Remove the 2 pump mounting blots and lockwashers, remove the pump and the gasket

If the rocker arm pushrod is to be remove from the engine the 2 adapter bolts and lockwashers and remove the adapter/gasket.

Instal fuel pump in reverse manner put heavy grease on the pushrod to hold the rod while installing the pump.

Good Luck
