Transmission Filter replacement

Have a 2000 Silverado 4.8L, A/T, manual 4X4, 115K miles and I can't get the tranny oil pan out. Removed the heat shield, but the linkage bracket and exhaust is in the way to get the pan all the way out. Any ideas?

You must remove the linkage bracket. You might have to lower the exhaust crossover pipe. Be very careful not to damage the shift solenoids at the rear of the valve body.

Thanks for the info. I can't see/feel how to remove the bracket or would have removed already. Haynes manual says it will come out w/removing the heat shield, but can't get it out. Thanks again.

It does help to remove the heat shield.I believe the bracket bolts are a T30 or T40 "torx" bit. You could remove the front driveshaft and use a prybar to bend the bracket, but I dont recommend it.

i do them all the time and most of the time the screws for the bracket strip out so I just push with my hands on the bracket and it bends it enough to wiggle it out. Gl

The bolts holding the bracket are T-40 with round heads, and have some factory thread-lock on them. I couldn't budge them with a T-40 bit, but a Craftsman bolt-off worked instantly, and they came right out.
