service engine soon light was on?

i have a 1996 chevy silverado,short wheel base,2 wheel drive,5.7 liter v-8 with 172,000.today i got in my truck to leave work and my tach and speedometer wasn't working.the light on my gear selector wasn't even lite up.the service engine soon light was on and the check gauges light was fading in and out.it seems to be running a little rough also.i checked the battery and the alternator and they were good.i check all the fuses and none were blown.i give up.if it's the computer please tell me.i don't know what else to check.thx for any help i might get!!!!!!

Since the check engine light is on you should get the codes.
U needs scanning tools to do that.
Or you can visit your local repair shop some of them charge for this service
Or you can check with your local part store some of them have the service for free
Get the code that helps you pin the problem
May be it’s a speed sensor

Check the power outputs from your ignition switch.This sounds like a bad switch.
