Just curious. Can an EGR valve be bad without throwing a trouble code? The reason I ask is because I went to my normal exhaust shop to get a new catalytic converter (bank 2). He told me he would rather me fix the problem that caused the converter to go bad. He hooked it up to his computer and it showed the coverter was indeed bad but also said the EGR and the MAF were outside their limits. He said get the real problem fixed then come back for the converter. The only code I am getting is the P0430. So could the EGR be bad? My gas milege is down and have intermitting power on hard acceleration.
Thanks!

Yes, a EGR and a MAF sensor can be bad without throwing a code!

The MAF sensor is what sounds like could be your problem with the extra rich gas going in the engine it could burn up the convertor, could cause the hesitation on hard excelleration and the bad gas mileage. Check that and for vaccum leaks first.

You can take off the EGR and clean the ports and see how it goes, you can also take off the MAF and clean off the wires with qd contact cleaner, dont use your hands.
