2000 Chevy Silverado Low Engine idle and will turn off afte

I had my fathers machanic take a look at it and he said that there is no idle control and that the truck needed a tune up. Complete tune up performed. Still have idle at about 500. After comming off the highway if the truck drops RPM to quick it will shut off. Sometimes at a stop light it will simply turn off.
