1997 Chevy Silverado killing my battery

I have a 97 1500 V-6 4.3.200,000 miles The battery gauge shows no life even after a fully charged battery is placed in the truck. I have replaced the altenator, though the old one checks out to be good.. I can't drive very far and the battery will be dead. I have checked all fuses and don't know what else to check.
