Hey guys heres what I got:
1996 Silverado 2500
350 V8
170,000 miles

Turn A/C on but the air is warm. Charged the system with a Large can of refridgerant and immediately made the air cold. It worked good for a few days until today when the air was warm again. Do I have a leak? Have I not used enough refridgerant? If I have a leak how do I spot it? If quantity is the problem, how much does a full system charge require if it was considered empty?

I greatly appreciate the help!

If refridgerant is low you definatly have a leak. You can use dye but I dont recomend it. All a/c lines are pretty much secure so 80% chance its not the lines. If you are pretty sure about your mechanical abilities you should be able to repair pretty easy. Look at all line connections and see if it is wet or oily. If it is you more than likely have found your leak. If not leaking there the other most common place would be your a/c compressor leaking. If so your looking at about 350.00 on parts. If you change compressorr it is a good idea to replace accumalator, and orfice tube as well. And if you do ask about a varible flow orfice tube. Air will blow 10-15 degrees colder at idle.
