Engine Performance problem
1996 Chevy Silverado

Hey guys,
Our truck has had the fuel pump replaced maybe 3 years ago and now it's doing the same thing all over again, runs rough, pings and now it's started to die like 3 or 4 times and luckily we were close to a gas station yesterday, where it died and wouldn't start again!!
The service man says it needs a new fuel pump AGAIN!!

How long should a fuel pump last? We had injectors cleaned but not sure how long ago that was, maybe 3 years. I can find out if that is necessary.

Truck is an oldie but goodie, most of the time.

Husband is telling me to look for a newer pickup and quit putting money in a dead horse.

What is your opinion on that?

Thanks!
Susie

Pump life depends on quality of pump and running out of gas on a regular basis. Gasoline cool the pump and if run out will overheat the pump and cause premature failure.

There is no set time a pump will last, but should last at least 10 years.

If pump had warranty replace it under warranty, many pumps have lifetime warranty.
