Hi guys. I got this truck off lease in 2000. Lately I've noticed that when I am backing up a grade, it seems to not have power in reverse for a few seconds, then there is a thud and it goes fine. This past week it started having this trouble even when backing on level ground. I put it in reverse, accelerate, and have to give it a good amount of gas to go. The truck shakes, there is a thud, then it goes fine. I changed the trans fluid and filter last week, no difference. I put a 'new' rear axle in it at about 150k when I lost some teeth on the ring gear. Any ideas?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you are ready for a rebuild. To me it sounds like a clutch pack is hanging up or there may be a problem with the valve body. You may want to have it checked by a trans mechanic that can drive it and feel what it is doing.

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna have a trans guy look at it this week.
