I inadvertently left the engine idling too long and ran the gas dry. I have added about 6-7 gals of gas, but the engine will not turn over. Is the fuel pump shot, is it in the fuel tank, and what can a layman do to fix the problem.

thank you

Hi thumbslikearacoon and welcome to 2carpros

When key at run position -do you hear the fuel pump come on for 2secs?-if not the fuel pump could be shot/in tank pick-up screen clogged by debris to include the fuel filter-If so check the fuel pressure if its within specification-incorrect pressures will caused it not to start. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank-You have to drop the fuel tank to get at it-
