1992 Chevy Silverado Fuel Pump

My truck would not start it ran perfect 20 min later would not start. I did not hear the fuel pump prime or make any noise. I checked the fuse and it was fine, so I bought a new pump. I installed it and then the pump would make the prime sound so I thought I fixed it. It still wouldn't start. I replaced the filter also replaced the relay and the fuel pressure regulator. It still will not start, I even went as far as to disconnect the fuel line leading to the carburetor and it did not release fuel when i turned it over I then disconnected from back incoming to filter still no fuel not a drop. so i thought maybe it was wiring i dropped tank again and all wires in tact i then took the top of fuel pump assembly off and turned it over and the pump makes the priming noise but does not pump any fuel. I think I bought a defective pump. I have a major headache over this and it has cost me 2 days of frustration. Is it possible it would make the prime noise and still not work? I have no clue at all. I did put gas into the carburetor and it started right up as soon as fuel burned off it died.
