S-10 Mystery

I have a 99' S-10 pickup with approximately 90,000 miles on it. It is automatic 2-WD. Several months ago the lights for the gear shift indicator and odometer went out. Didn't think much about it as everything else worked fine. NOW, tried to start it and wouldn't do anything. Lights all come on (headlights, dome, signals, etc) but only some clicking from under the drivers side dash or fender well. I took the battery cables off the battery and made sure they were clean. Then it started. Drove around, stopped, turned it off. It restarted. Got back to house and tried to restart it. Wouldn't start. Still have lights, etc. Any ideas?

Dose it crank? If not look in the fusebox under the hood and in there the starter relay resides. Make sure your battery has enough amps to start the truck! You may need to have a load test done on it, will it start with a jump?

Yes. It cranks and I have not tried jumping it as it seems the battery has plenty of power. It is a two year old battery. I did throw a battery charger on it when if first happened a few weeks ago, but the meter did not indicate that it need charging.

Could it still be the starter relay. Sticking or going bad?

No if the relay is bad you wont crank, check a few plug wires for spark, I use an old plug, plug it in and crank the engine, any spark? You might need an ignition module.
