I have a 2000 Chevy S10 pickup that has a starting issue. When you turn the key you hear a click from the engine compartment but no turning over. If you do this several times, EVENTUALLY it MAY start. The number of key turns however has been getting larger over time (up to 40 or so now!). The battery and the starter have been professionally replaced. Any idea? This is my only car and it is VERY necessary.

you say you DO NOT get the click every time? Sounded like starter to me (accutaly starter silinoid but on chevys they are connected.) You could double check the mech's work, see if wires are tight (dissconnect ground on battery first) tap the starter and so on. Does you truck have a chip in the key? could be ignition going out, either keyed or electic box on steering colomn. donate a few bucks to get a pro invovled.
