Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Automatic

When I start my truck, the engine turns but "slips" and would make this grinding noise where at this point I would release the ignition and would try again. Sometimes, the engine won't turn at all and just would make the grinding noise. I've reached a point to where I can somewhat predict when the "slip" is going to happen (when the engine would actually turn) and release the ignition beforehand in the effort to not grind whatever it is that's grinding since it's obviously not a good thing. At times, it would take me 2-3 tries to successfully start my truck. There has been times where it would take me several tries lasting as much as 30 minutes with 1-3 minute pauses in between tries. Occasionally, I can successfully start my truck without any problems at all. I just want to know if to fix this problem only takes a starter replacement or something else. Thanks.
