A/C worked last summer. After not running it over the winter, it only blows air temperature. I bought the refrigerant to recharge it, but when I hooked up the gauge, it indicated it was already charged. I noticed the wheel with the belt engages and spins aprox every 15 seconds, but only stays on for a few seconds. With the gauge attached, I only get a reading when it is spinning. Also, something clicks on the large aluminum cylinder just before it started to spin. sounds like some sort of switch turning on. I dont remember this cycling when it was working correctly. Any ideas?

Hello
Try putting some refrigerant in, the fast on and of of the compressor indicates that it is low on charge, more refrigerant will cause it to stay on longer and you can get an accurate reading. You can only get a proper reading on the gauge when the compressor is running.

I tried putting some in, but when it is cycling on, the gauge shows it is already full. I am afraid I would be risking something by overfilling it. Any other ideas?
